Amalaki or Indian Gooseberry fruit has the richest source of natural Vitamin C. It is an essential component of Chyavanaprasha, a well-known rejuvenative tonic, and Triphala, a digestive formula.

How much do I need?

Vitamin C is mainly required for the growth and repair of tissues in all parts of your body. It is essential to form collagen, a significant protein used to make skin, scar tissue, tendons, ligaments, and blood vessels. Researchers at the Biochemistry department of Lucknow University (LU) have found that Vitamin C and E can help to prevent heart attacks and from other cardio-vascular diseases. The clinical trials have been proved flourishing and the research has also been published in the various International journals.

The research was carried out by a three-member team and headed by Prof M K Mishra of the varsity's Biochemistry department. Mishra said, "In our study we have found that Vitamin (C and E) can proficiently regulate the blood and oxygen supply to heart. These vitamins also act as the clot busters, thereby making the heart it to function normally."

What happens if I take too much?

Taking large amounts of vitamin C can cause severe stomach pain, diarrhoea and flatulence. But these symptoms should get disappear once you stop taking the supplements.

Taking 1000 mg or less of vitamin C supplements in a day is unlikely to cause any harm.
